Research Fleet Captain
Responsibilities- Conduct development test activities aboard ship in the Chesapeake Bay, Delaware Bay, and North Atlantic.
- Lead pre-test planning, safety operations assessments, cost and logistics.
- Handle engineering activities for vessel modifications, installations of units under test on ships and boats, including mechanical, electrical and cooling requirements.
- Record data, telemetry and use commercial maritime systems instrumentation.
- Work in an open water test environment with test participants, onshore test sites, other ships, real‑time operations with our test aircraft, and littoral targets.
- Maintain a solid background with commercial navigation testing and DOD surface ship and aircraft test environment.
- Operate within Northrop Grumman, USCG, and DOD requirements.
- Pilot small craft and ships up to 100 tons or greater.
- Serve as primary point of contact for AUVs associated with maritime targets.
- Perform other maritime duties as assigned.
- BS in Engineering with 12 years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with 10 years of related experience; or 16 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- US Coast Guard Master’s License for 100 ton or greater.
- Experience in commercial/DOD maritime and aircraft test operations and evaluation.
- Experience in sonar, radar, and navigation system test and evaluation.
- Active/current TS/SCI with Polygraph.
- US Citizenship required.
- Experience and knowledge of ROV / UUV operation and implementation.
- Experience in aircraft radar operation and theory.
- Detailed experience with electrical design and troubleshooting.
- Experience with test evolution planning and execution.
- Experience and background in military test and operations.
- Certifications or equivalent experience with gas/diesel powerplants (inboard and outboard), electrical and hydraulic systems design and repair.
- FAA license Part 107.
- Experience with ITAR and import/export.
- Detailed understanding of supply chain management (SCM) / Pcard processes.
Primary Level Salary Range: $ – $. Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
