The Bilingual Interpreter will communicate with and assist Spanish-speaking park visitors. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

• Develop and lead nature programs and hikes
• Provide general customer service and park information to visitors
• Communicate with visitors while assisting with park operations (e.g. beach patrol, search and rescue, traffic control)
• Develop bilingual program advertisements and assist with public relations

The candidate must be fluent in Spanish and English (i.e. able to speak, read, and write in both Spanish and English). This information must be indicated on the application, and candidates will be required to demonstrate their written/oral bilingual skills during an interview to verify fluency.

Preference will be given to applicants with customer service experience and/or park operations experience.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle, UTV or golf cart. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland and five points or fewer on their current driving record.

Applicants selected for employment may undergo an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to: employment reference check, education verification, driving record check (if the position requires employees to drive a vehicle) and a criminal history check including fingerprinting.

• Contractual employees who work 30 or more hours a week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.
• Employees are responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for medical and prescription coverage. The State of Maryland subsidizes the remaining 75% of the cost.
• Electable benefits include dental, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, for which employees pay the full premium.
• Leave may be granted at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
