Position Reports to

The Senior Tax Accountant is a member of the Tax team, reporting to the Supervisor or Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for a variety of clients, including individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, staying up to date with changing tax laws and regulations.
  • Identify tax‑saving opportunities while ensuring compliance with all tax reporting requirements.
  • Provide tax planning and consulting services to clients, helping them minimize tax liabilities and achieve their business or personal financial goals.
  • Advise clients on tax‑efficient strategies for business formation, acquisitions, restructuring, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with partners and other senior staff to deliver integrated solutions for complex tax issues.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on tax‑related matters, offering proactive advice and fostering strong relationships.
  • Communicate complex tax concepts and strategies clearly and concisely to clients, ensuring they understand the implications of their tax decisions.
  • Conduct in‑depth research on tax laws, regulations, and rulings to support client needs and provide well‑founded advice.
  • Stay current on changes to federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as emerging tax trends that may impact clients.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff and interns, providing guidance on technical tax matters and offering ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Review the work of junior accountants and provide constructive feedback to ensure high‑quality work and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present tax reports for clients, including financial summaries and potential risks or opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other departments and partners to ensure the delivery of comprehensive services to clients.
Core Schedule

· Monday – Friday, Saturday’s during tax season at agreed‑upon schedule between the Senior Tax Accountant and Tax Supervisor or Manager.

o Additional support may be needed at times outside of the core schedule. These requests will be made sufficiently in advance for planning purposes.

Physical Requirements

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA license or other relevant professional certification preferred.
  • 2+ years of tax experience, with a focus on compliance, planning, and consulting within a public accounting firm.
Factors to Success
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, including tax return preparation and tax planning strategies.
  • Experience with tax preparation software, including proficiency with tools such as Ultra Tax, CCH Engagement, Thomson Reuters products.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax issues to clients and team members.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, including the ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
