The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and valuable skills through the MDOT Transportation Career Pathways Program. Whether you're a recent high school graduate or considering a career change, this program is for you. The program runs from May through September and is limited to 832 hours per appointment.

Bay Region Tracks

Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) Track

Engage in hands-on work related to the upkeep and maintenance of transportation infrastructure. From roadways to bridges, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient travel within our region.

Trades (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) Track

For those exploring various aspects of the transportation industry, this track offers hands-on work related to trade-helper duties. Learn from electricians, maintenance mechanics, and heavy equipment mechanics to discover your specific interest within the diverse field of transportation.

Program Requirements
  • Attach a detailed resume
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license by program start date 5/10/2026
  • 40-hour work week availability
  • Ability to work outside and move up to 45 pounds
  • Ability to work on roadsides and uneven terrain
  • Ability to follow and comply with instructions
