Who We AreUtilities is a division of Facilities and Operations, made up of 135 dedicated employees responsible for providing utilities services for the university 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Services include campus-wide utilities purchasing, generation, and distribution, as well as metering and billing energy consumption for all university buildings. Distribution includes the operations and maintenance of 300 miles of underground utility systems from outdoor lighting and high voltage circuits to water mains to tunnel piping.
The division also provides a wide range of engineering services primarily dedicated to energy management, the operations and maintenance of university facilities, and the utilities infrastructure.

Responsibilities*- To perform and assist with daily assignments in the installation, maintenance and repair of primary (2400 volts and above), and secondary electrical equipment and cables within the NCRC Central Energy Plant; and in coordinating, performing and tracking progress of complex primary and secondary voltage installation and repair of equipment and cables.
- Perform repair and maintenance work on high and low voltage circuits, including the removal of fuses, links and buss connections, steam and combustion driven turbine generators and controls, single and multi burner high pressure and combined cycle boiler controls.
- Fabricate and install high and low voltage controls, meters, relays and circuit breakers.
- Splice and terminate a variety of high and low voltage cables.
- Dismantle and repair primary electrical equipment, replacing sectionalizing box terminators, links and burned out fuses.
- Test and troubleshoot energized high or low voltage electrical circuits in installed or repaired equipment using electrical measuring instruments such as high voltage testers and phasing sets, DC high potential testers, mega ohmmeters and fault locators.
- Analyze malfunctions of primary high or low voltage electrical equipment using ammeter, voltmeter, ohmmeters, drawings, visual inspection, mega ohmmeters, and high potential testing equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance activities, including periodic visual inspections and the testing of high voltage neutral reactors, switches, series tripping devices, disconnects, motor starters and air and vacuum circuit breakers.
- Pull high and low voltage cable through conduit by means of power pullers.
- Inspect new high and low voltage electrical installations for compliance with applicable state and local codes.
- Assist in the writing of complex switching orders to enable scheduled or unscheduled NCRC Central Energy Plant equipment power shut downs.
- Cut, thread and route high and low voltage conduit and duct systems.
- Fabricate and install control and distribution apparatus, including switches, relays and circuit breaker panels.
- Connect wiring to electrical fixtures and power equipment.
- Cut, thread, bend and route conduit and pull wire through conduit by means of fish tape.
- Analyze malfunctions of electrical equipment and test continuity of electrical circuits installed or of repaired equipment.
- Troubleshoot, analyze and repair high and low voltage motor controllers.
- Dismantle and repair defective wires, motor brushes, condensers and burned out fuses.
- Sketch, read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, sketches, circuit diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams and job specifications.
