Registered Nurse – Pre-Op/PACU

About the Department

The Main OR Pre Op/PACU is a 38‑bay department (20 Pre Op, 18 PACU) at Trinity Health Ann Arbor’s Level 1 Trauma Center, with 20 operating rooms averaging 50 cases per day. Our mission is to provide the highest‑quality care to every patient requiring a surgical intervention, during preparation for surgery and recovery from anesthesia. We care for inpatients and outpatients across elective, urgent, and emergent service lines including Acute Care Surgery, Colorectal, General Surgery, Cardio‑Thoracic, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Gynecology, Oncology, Vascular, and endoscopy.

Our nursing staff is supported 24/7 by department‑based anesthesiologists. We are a Certified Joint Center of Excellence and a Robotic Center of Excellence.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)
  • Certified Perianesthesia Nurse (CPAN)
Required Education and Licensure
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • All new hires must have a BSN degree or agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role.
  • Current Michigan Nursing License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
Required

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age‑specific needs. Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Critical thinking skills required to perform principal duties and responsibilities. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.

What You Will Do
  • View patients holistically, considering physical, psychosocial, emotional, age‑specific, cultural and spiritual factors; demonstrate appropriate assessment skills for identified patient populations.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking by gathering and analyzing patient information, then responding to patient situations.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized plans of care using evidence‑based interventions and standards of care; identify needs and begin planning for care across the continuum considering patient and family preferences.
  • Identify patient and family education needs; develop and implement teaching plans; utilize teach‑back methodology; identify necessary resources for discharge readiness.
  • Create an environment that promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing (including EMR documentation) accurately, timely, concisely, and thoroughly; share patient status, priority goals, and interventions with colleagues and other disciplines during consultation, rounds, and handoffs.
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships; approach conflict constructively; identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in resolution.
