2026: CAN Food Security Development VISTA
Join to apply for the 2026: CAN Food Security Development VISTA role at Ameri Corps
CAN partners with children, youth, and families from under-resourced neighborhoods to help them thrive. We proudly host some of the largest food distributions in Washtenaw County. Our Bryant Center food program operates 5 days a week and provides food to over 500 families weekly. Our Brick Center food program operates 3 days a week and provides food to over 50 families weekly.
We have seen astronomical increases in food security needs over the past couple of years. Without dedicated funding for food programming, we struggle to keep our programs sufficiently staffed and running smoothly. This Food Security Development VISTA will help keep programs running effectively at their main site and other locations as needed. The member will research and implement initiatives to help meet the growing food security needs of the community.
Duties
The Food Security Development VISTA is an integral member of the center team. Their active participation in food programming helps ensure that CAN meets the needs of the community. This includes collecting critical donation data, observing programs to evaluate gaps and needs, building CAN’s food program capacity, and evaluating maintenance of food pantry inventory. The member will get to know the food program and community well and utilize that knowledge to increase the program’s impact.
The member will research and implement initiatives to meet the growing food security needs of the community. They will also build relationships with food advocates, donors, and volunteers to increase the capacity and impact of CAN’s food programs.
