Lathe Operator & Shop Technician Role Summary
Seeking a hands-on Lathe Operator / Shop Technician to support turning operations and general shop duties. This role involves working with manual machinery, maintaining shop operations, and assisting with light mechanical and administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Operate manual machine tools, including lathe, mill, grinders (/OD, surface), and cut-off saw
- Work within tight precision tolerances (up to 0.0002)
- Cut steel and prepare materials for machining
- Perform minor mechanical assembly and part balancing
- Build shipping crates and support shop logistics
- Maintain shop floor cleanliness and equipment upkeep
- Perform basic documentation and shop-related administrative tasks
- Read and interpret measurements using precision tools
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read and measure using micrometers, calipers, and gauges
- Basic math skills for calculating dimensions and tolerances
- Experience in measuring, inspecting, and testing parts for quality and accuracy
- Knowledge of lubrication and cooling processes for machining
- Ability to clean and maintain machines, tools, and equipment
- Experience collaborating with engineering and production teams
- On-the-job training provided
