We are seeking a Data Engineer to own and evolve a high-value, analytically complex data and reporting environment. While overall data volumes are modest, the data itself is intricate, highly interdependent, and central to actuarial and analytical decision-making. This role focuses on building reliable data pipelines, improving analytical workflows, and modernizing reporting approaches—without forcing simplistic dashboard paradigms where they don’t fit.
Key Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines supporting actuarial and analytical reporting
- Manage and improve nightly data export and transformation processes
- Partner closely with actuarial, finance, and analytical stakeholders to understand complex data relationships and reporting needs
- Develop and support analytical models using Power Query, Excel, and DAX
- Improve data structures to enable deep matrix and multi-dimensional analysis rather than surface-level KPIs
- Evaluate and guide the transition away from SQL Server Reporting Services toward more flexible analytical tooling
- Contribute to a future-state reporting strategy, including thoughtful use of Power BI where appropriate
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and traceability across reporting outputs
- Strong experience with SQL and relational data modeling
- Hands‑on experience building and maintaining ETL or ELT workflows, including scheduled/nightly processes
- Advanced experience with Excel, Power Query, and DAX for complex analytical models
- Ability to work with highly complex, business‑critical datasets where correctness matters more than scale
- Strong data validation, reconciliation, and documentation practices
- Experience with Power BI, particularly for complex analytical or matrix‑style reporting
- Exposure to actuarial, financial, or risk‑based data domains
- Experience in modernizing or replacing legacy reporting platforms such as SQL Server Reporting Services
- Familiarity with cloud‑based data platforms and data orchestration tools
