We are seeking a highly motivated Mechatronics Field Service Engineer to join our team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In this role, you will travel to customer sites to perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and installation of a wide range of servo‑hydraulic structural testing systems.
As an FSE, you will work within our global service team to understand complete system assemblies and subassemblies—including hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, PLC, and software components—and provide both on‑site and remote customer support.
You will also collaborate closely with our headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany, ensuring timely and accurate responses to customer inquiries related to support, spare parts, upgrades, and service solutions. This position requires both domestic and international travel, including occasional extended assignments.
Instron provides a company vehicle, professional tools, laptop, smartphone, and the support of a well‑established global service operation. Approx. 50% overnight travel is expected, including multi‑week training and installation periods.
Qualifications- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent military/trade school background.
- Strong understanding of electro‑mechanical systems (hydraulic, mechanical, electronic).
- Ability to read and interpret servo‑hydraulic technical documentation.
- Proficiency with PCs, common operating systems, and Microsoft Office.
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical assembly, electronics soldering, and software/firmware installation.
- Mechatronics training or experience.
- Prior field service experience.
- Experience with multi‑axis hydraulic test equipment.
- Familiarity with PID control of servo‑hydraulic actuators.
- Knowledge of Siemens and Weidmueller automation systems.
- Understanding of sensor calibration.
- Experience operating overhead cranes for positioning actuators/hydraulic components.
- Strong self‑motivation, organization, and time management.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Bilingual candidates (German/English) are encouraged to apply.
This position has a starting salary range of $33.00 to $36.00 per hour. Pay is determined by several factors, including a candidate’s experience, relevant skills, and qualifications.
