HIL Development Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and hands‑on HIL Engineer with at least 5 years of experience and strong programming expertise in Python to join the autonomous vehicle development team. This role bridges the gap between software integration and the OEM operating system/interface.

• Design, develop, and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems for autonomous vehicle platforms.
• Create, design, write, and maintain test scripts and automation tools using Python and C++.
• Integrate vehicle ECUs, sensors, and actuators into HIL systems.
• Collaborate with technicians to set up and troubleshoot hardware configurations.
• Work closely with software engineers to validate embedded systems and control algorithms.
• Develop and execute test plans to ensure system reliability and performance.
• Analyze test results and provide detailed feedback to development teams.
• Maintain documentation for test setups, procedures, and results.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in HIL testing, automotive hardware development, and embedded systems.
• Proficiency in Python and C++ for test automation and system integration.
• Strong understanding of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
• Hands‑on experience with automotive hardware – able to plug in, wire, and configure systems.
• Familiarity with tools such as dSPACE, NI Veri Stand, Vector CANoe, or similar.
• Excellent problem‑solving and debugging skills.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally.

• Experience in autonomous vehicle systems or ADAS.
• Knowledge of real‑time operating systems (RTOS).

This is a Contract position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.
