Application Engineer
U.S. Citizenship is required. The role is home‑based with daily travel to local customer sites within the geographical region. Travel to customer sites extensively, with expected overnight potential of 30‑40% and up to 80% for periods of time. All expenses are covered and a company credit card is provided.
What will you do?- Focus on the deployment of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) at data center facilities.
- Customer‑facing position – work well in a team environment and interface directly with contractors and end‑users daily.
- Perform software installation, customization, and start‑up services.
- Start‑up, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical power monitoring equipment and device communications.
- Provide customer training for the commissioned system.
- Consult with customers to determine system operation requirements.
- Install and upgrade EPMS software.
- Configure and commission Schneider Electric and third‑party hardware.
- Perform start‑up services and system troubleshooting.
- Document the as‑built system.
- Daily commuting to customer sites is required; the majority of travel is domestic with occasional international opportunities.
- Shift work is possible with this role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (emphasis on control systems, Computer Science, or Software Engineering) or equivalent experience.
- Experience with electrical fundamentals and electrical equipment.
- Ability to technically troubleshoot network communications (IP addresses and locating devices on a network).
- Ability to interpret contract specifications and electrical (or mechanical) drawings.
- Willingness to travel both regionally and out of state as needed.
- Stable work history.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in a group setting.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving history.
- Experience related to Electrical Power Monitoring Systems, Building Automation Systems, Systems Integration, and/or Energy Management Systems.
- Experience working with electrical equipment such as switch gear, generators, UPS systems, etc.
- Thorough understanding of power generation, distribution, and quality concepts.
- Good understanding of industry‑standard communication protocols with an emphasis on Modbus, IEC 61850, and BACnet.
- Knowledgeable in computer networking architectures, topologies, and hardware.
- Knowledgeable in computer programming languages (Visual Basic, C/C++, Java, Python, etc.), databases (SQL), and HTML development.
- HMI configuration experience, including graphical screen development.
- Direct experience with Schneider Electric proprietary software such as Power Monitoring Expert, Power SCADA Expert, and Wonderware.
- The first 3–4 weeks involve training and safety classes (online), followed by on‑the‑job training partnered with a peer; this will require more than typical overnight travel until candidates gain necessary experience.
- Job sites can change regularly or remain constant for long periods depending on client demand (commercial, industrial, critical infrastructure, data center, government facilities).
- Mileage reimbursement or fleet/rental car vehicle options (good driving record required).
- Will consider senior‑level Application Engineering candidates as well.
