Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Senior Direct Examination Technician to join our team.

Non-Destructive technicians ensure the safe operation of client assets by assessing the integrity of the asset through various NDT methods. You will work alone and oversee a small team of NDT technicians, while also collaborating with larger project teams.

Responsibilities
  • Perform non‑destructive examination & testing (NDE/NDT) and other direct examination methods in the field on clients’ assets
  • Oversee a team of NDT technicians in the field
  • QA/QC and sign off on completed field assessments and reports
  • Train and mentor NDT Technicians
  • Summarize work performed in a daily report submitted to supervisor at the end of each workday
  • Assemble and provide written reports of findings upon completion of work at each worksite
  • Adhere to LSC and client safety requirements at all worksites
  • Know, understand and follow internal written practices and procedures
  • Work with internal and client engineers and contractors on site
  • Maintain a current log of NDT experience hours
  • Execute all standard field tests for pipeline direct examination
  • Perform dig data & environmental collection, which includes soil resistivity, pipe‑to‑soil potential, soil pH measurements, groundwater sampling, corrosion by‑product sampling, MIC testing
  • Conduct UT, PT, VT, MT, PAUT, AUT, Creaform
  • Evaluate pipeline defects such as external metal loss, internal metal loss, dents, linear indications and coating anomalies, grind repairs
Position Requirements
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience
  • Completion of basic NDT theory hours (including hands‑on)
  • Completion of field hours to obtain non‑limited level II certifications and limited PAUT
  • Industry experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Must have good mathematical background to handle common calculations
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time to client facilities and sites
Physical Requirements And Demands
  • Able to travel and work for extended periods of time in an outdoor, field environment.
  • Clean driving record, and ability to drive for work
  • Able to pass required visual acuity examination
  • Able to lift technician equipment (1000W generator and NDE equipment)
  • Able to climb in and out of excavations and conduct hands‑on evaluation of pipe
  • Able to work a standard work week and meet requirements to work some evenings and weekends to meet project milestones and leadership responsibilities

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $25‑$39 per hour
