The Michigan Area Business Class Leader is responsible for the overall vision, strategy, and execution of building and growing a Michigan wastewater team. The role includes supervising staff, managing projects, producing project deliverables, and handling business‑development responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Plan and design wastewater and hydraulic design elements, including wastewater treatment facilities, collection and interceptor sewers, wastewater pumping, and system master plans.
- Lead staff development: recruit, select, train, develop, and manage technical personnel; supervise engineers and junior staff (2–6 person team).
- Provide operational leadership of the production section, ensuring utilization, morale, quality control, and marketing support.
- Implement, monitor, and support company policy.
- Deliver project services through planning, design, and construction phases to meet client expectations, including project management.
- Take responsibility for area coordination and improve technical competencies of business‑class staff and products.
- Collaborate with other wastewater treatment business‑class leads, marketing, operations, and project teams regionally and nationally.
- Support development of technical experts and participate in business‑class practice and professional discipline groups.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews where appropriate.
- Engage in marketing planning, proposals, interviews, strategic planning, budgeting, and plan implementation.
- Drive area initiatives that align with the business class and meet company objectives.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, environmental, hydraulics) or a related field; master's degree is a plus.
- Michigan Registered Professional Engineer License (PE).
- Proven client and business‑development success in Michigan.
- Experience in conceptual, preliminary, and final design of wastewater collection, conveyance, and treatment infrastructure.
- Experience with process and hydraulic design and design software.
- Knowledge of Michigan water‑quality regulations and Total Maximum Daily Load programs.
- Bachelor's degree in a professional, architectural, engineering, or closely related field.
- 10 years of experience in the field.
- Committed to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
- Maintenance of professional or engineering registration with related technical experience.
- Experience in developing and managing diverse teams.
- Cooperative collaboration with other area business‑class leaders, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers.
- Demonstrated commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
