Girls Group is a local nonprofit mentoring agency based out of Ann Arbor, MI, with a vision to end generational poverty by helping economically disadvantaged young women achieve self‑sufficiency. The ultimate ambition is that each young woman finds her voice, defines her goals and dreams, and moves forward in the world with pride and self‑confidence. Services establish long‑term supportive mentoring relationships, spanning middle school, high school, and continuing through a young woman’s college and career journey.

Rollins College Summer Intern Position Summary

A Girls Group intern’s role is to establish and maintain positive relationships with middle‑school and high‑school aged participants (ages 11‑17) to help them find their voice, define their goals and dreams, and move forward in the world with pride and self‑confidence. The intern will work collaboratively with a team of programming staff and interns, families, and community partners to establish a vibrant community of support for participants.

This position is primarily responsible for:

  • Co‑facilitating weekly summer enrichment programming sessions
  • Establish developmental mentoring relationships with participants
  • Support agency‑wide special events
  • Support agency leadership with special projects or initiatives

This internship position will offer an immersive community‑engaged learning experience focused on positive youth development from the position of a Mentor. The intern will be part of a collaborative, vibrant, and diverse team of 15+ college students and young professionals (other mentors). Summer programming often includes field trips, college and career tours, youth‑led projects, and community partnerships on a variety of topics (e.g., adventure therapy, activism through art, mindfulness hikes, water park/lake trips, movie days, attending community festivals).

The intern will have the opportunity to build professional skills in youth programming, interpersonal practice skills, facilitation, public speaking, advocacy, PODS (privilege, oppression, diversity, and social justice), crisis response, data collection, program evaluation, curriculum development, and nonprofit work.

Position Responsibilities
  • Provide Peer Mentoring at All Assigned Girls Group Programs
    • Co‑facilitate group sessions for assigned programs utilizing Girls Group program standards and curriculum
    • Provide mentoring support to participants in alignment with the Girls Group standards during group sessions
    • Support an effective environment by providing structure and clear expectations, reinforcing positive group dynamics, and creating youth leadership opportunities during group sessions
    • Provide case management support to identified participants in alignment with the Girls Group standards, including assessment, person‑centered planning, referrals, crisis response, and advocacy
    • Coordinate program meals, purchasing and organization of activity supplies, and transportation support to Girls Group programs and special events
    • Participate in planning, set‑up, and coordination of agency‑wide special events
  • Administrative Duties
    • Adhere to programming procedures, including tracking and submitting mileage reports
    • Actively participate in team meetings before and after program sessions
    • Actively participate in weekly agency meetings, training, and supervision
    • Outreach communications, emails, text messaging, phone calls, and paperwork
    • Support agency leadership with research, editing, data entry, evaluation, and special projects
