SUMMARY:
The WAVE Instructor/Advisor position facilitates learning gains with at-risk teenagers and ensures their success in middle school as well as earning a high school diploma. Advisors work in a blended, project based learning educational setting with a presence in both the learning lab (face to face instruction) and online with students, guiding them in developing and completing curriculum projects that meet Michigan content expectations.
Advisors also may conduct home visits. In addition, collaboration will take place on a regular basis with other instructional staff. This instructional position is year-round, covering 210 working days. Hiring for Integrated Sciences (DI), multiple certifications preferred. This position will begin September 1st for the school year.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Michigan Teaching Certificate (non-expired) in Integrated Sciences
- Possess a solid command of the course materials and curriculum development.
- Possess skills identified by the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers. (They reflect the basic technology skills that every educator should possess.)
- Experience with online or blended learning.
- Computer literacy required; experience using learning management systems a plus (Google Classroom, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) .
- Highly dependable, must have excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Must have personal warmth and approachability.
- Committed to being a team player.
- Great education facilitation skills.

- Work one-on-one or in small groups with at-risk high school students.
- Instruct in certified content areas both online and face to face.
- Provide tutoring in various subjects and assist students as needed.
- Assist other staff in scheduling and advertising course support services and special events.
- Keep up-to-date with subjects that will be taught and develop a robust plan for FCS curriculum and class offerings.
- Help maintain the learning lab space (i.e., keep the learning space tidy, put away inventory, etc.).
- Collaborate regularly with subject area experts and other mentors.
- Attend required meetings, training, and participate in professional development.
- Provide assistance and instruction during orientation days.
- Maintain records (i.e., student work and learning plans).
- Guide students in the use of software applications.
- Identify the interests and talents of the students to develop contexts in which they can expand their skills.
- Encourage students to contribute to online learning communities.
