Christian Montessori School of Ann Arbor is seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic Assistant Toddler Teacher to join our early childhood community. We are a faith-based Montessori school dedicated to nurturing the whole child, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and academically, during these formative early years.
Our Mission is to inspire a lifelong love of learning through an authentic Montessori education rooted in Christian values. In alignment with this mission, the Assistant Toddler Teacher works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and other Assistant Teachers, to support a peaceful, prepared classroom environment where toddlers feel safe, valued, and encouraged to explore their independence. This role is ideal for someone who feels called to work with young children, supports Montessori principles, and values partnering with families in a Christ-centered school community.
QualificationsCandidates should have knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate teaching strategies, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Successfully pass background check
Experience in early childhood education or relevant field preferred.
Education required:
High school diploma or GED.
- Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher be prepared to teach and supervise all students in the Montessori Method and curriculum in all academic and specialty areas of study.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in preparing materials and maintain their cleanliness and good condition/repair.
- Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable and ensure children are supervised within sight and sound at all times.
- Demonstrate appropriate and professional behaviors at all times when in the school building, during classroom outdoor times, and whenever you are in the surrounding school neighborhood.
- Be in attendance at all assistant staff meetings and parent meetings as requested by the Head of School or Lead Teacher.
- Maintain ongoing communication with team members and lead teacher.
- Follow the classroom schedule created by the lead teacher
- Assist the Lead Teacher in checking classroom messages and messages from home.
- Assist the Lead Teacher in entering and tracking student information and classroom observations using our electronic system Transparent Classroom.
- Report all accidents and incidents immediately and prepare a written report in Transparent Classroom stating the date, time, and nature of the accident and the action taken.
- Follow all CMSAA policies and procedures as stated in the Employee and Parent Handbooks and the School’s rules and regulations, as presently existing or as may hereafter be amended.
- Follow all standards in accordance with Montessori best practices and principles, State of MI, Bureau of Child and Adult Licensing, and Washtenaw County Department of Public Health.
- Should model grace and courtesy with students and adults at all times, be patient, flexible and have a positive attitude in working with all children, staff and parents.
- Supported and directed by the Head of School and Lead teacher must obtain 16 hours of professional development courses per year
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School, Program Director or Lead Teacher including assisting when necessary in other classrooms and facilitating breaks throughout the school.
