Overview
CAN partners with children, youth, and families from under-resourced neighborhoods to help them thrive. We have numerous community centers that provide education programs and food programs to a specific neighborhood. Each center has at least one dedicated full-time director, but it takes more people than that to maintain successful, sustainable programs. These Education and Food Security Development VISTA positions will partner with the director and part-time staff to create welcoming, collaborative programs that continue to meet ever-changing community needs.
VISTAs will help plan new, year-round educational programming that evolves with student needs and interests. In Food Programs, VISTAs will help collect data to ensure the growing food security needs of the community are met. VISTAs can also help plan community events that are meaningful and engaging for the members.
Member Duties : The Site-Specific Education and Food Security Development VISTA is an integral member of the community center. They partner closely with the site director, often the only other full-time staff member, to create successful programming for the community. In our educational programs, they supplement CAN’s existing curriculum by learning CAN’s current curricula, learning childrens’ interests and needs, assessing and improving meals and snacks, and engaging with external groups and volunteers that enrich programming.
The member will increase the effectiveness and capacity of our food programs. This may include assessing needs, improving processes, creating new initiatives for the community, coordinating donations, and entering data into the Link2
Feed system. They will also research and implement strategies to help meet the growing food security needs in the community.
