Overview
CAN has numerous community centers that provide after-school programs and summer camps to students in specific neighborhoods. We proudly curate curricula to meet the needs of our unique students. This is a large task, and we only have one staff member who works on it, our Director of CAN Art & Design (A&D). The CAN Art & Design Curriculum Development VISTA will partner closely with the A&D Director.
VISTAs will write A&D curriculum, social-emotional lessons, academic support lessons, and more. They will also pave the way for new A&D programming across sites. This role broadly impacts all of CAN’s education program staff and students. The member will learn about current programming, build relationships with staff and students at each site, and combine that knowledge with research to guide CAN’s curricula and increase its impact.
Duties
The CAN Art and Design (A&D) Curriculum Development VISTA is an integral member of the CAN team. They partner closely with the A&D Director to create an impactful primary curriculum for site staff to utilize and supplement it with art-based curriculum to enrich education programs. The VISTA learns about childrens’ interests and needs, researches activities and lessons, writes new A&D curriculum, social-emotional lessons, academic activities, and more.
They assist in planning summer camp staff training, time management, evaluating enrichment activities, field trips, and the end-of-summer field day to improve outcomes. They also build community relationships with education and art-focused stakeholders to increase the impact of CAN’s educational programming.
