Position SummaryThe Part‑Time As‑Needed Civil Construction Inspector – RPR supports municipal and infrastructure construction projects by providing on‑site observation, documentation, and contract compliance verification. Projects may include water main installations, sanitary sewer systems, water and wastewater treatment facilities, and paving improvements. The role serves as a liaison between the project owner and contractor to help ensure quality, safety, and adherence to project specifications.
EssentialJob Functions
- Observe and document daily construction activities for water main, sanitary sewer, treatment facility, paving, and related infrastructure projects.
- Maintain daily reports including measurements, calculations, quantity computations, and written narratives of completed work.
- Verify contractor and subcontractor work for conformance with plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Maintain redline drawings to support preparation of accurate record drawings.
- Serve as on‑site liaison between owner and contractor, facilitating communication and issue resolution.
- Engage with the public as needed to coordinate site access and provide project progress updates.
- Adhere to company policies, including safety, public relations, and employment standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction inspection, municipal utilities, or civil construction (water/wastewater, roads, or infrastructure).
- Experience reviewing and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel periodically (approximately 15% or more as needed).
- Technical coursework in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience with municipal infrastructure projects including water, sewer, paving, or site development.
- Previous experience serving as a Resident Project Representative (RPR).
- Retired professionals or individuals seeking part‑time field assignments are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to work extended or irregular hours depending on project and seasonal demands.
- Ability to traverse uneven or rough terrain and position oneself to operate field or survey equipment.
- Ability to ascend/descend ladders and enter trenches or elevated areas when observing construction activities.
- Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds as needed; reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Primarily outdoor construction site environment with exposure to variable weather conditions.
- Exposure to heavy construction equipment, noise, and active work zones.
