Description:

Position Summary: This position assists in the upkeep, maintenance, and running of the department’s laboratories, storage areas, and classrooms.

Schedule:

This position is scheduled to work a maximum of twenty (20) hours per week. Shifts will be Monday – Thursday between 4 – 10 p.m. Shifts will vary depending on departmental needs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the procurement, maintenance, and operation of laboratory equipment, classrooms, and core areas.
  • Maintain inventory and organization of laboratory supplies.
  • Prepare, break down, and clean laboratory activities and equipment in accordance with course lab schedules.
  • Follow established protocols for lab setup and takedown.
  • Restock or refresh chemicals, reagents, and other supplies as needed throughout each shift.
  • Monitor laboratories and department classrooms to ensure equipment and lab stations are functioning properly.
  • Submit maintenance requests promptly when repairs are needed.
  • Respond in a timely manner to issues that arise during laboratory sessions.
  • Provide support to instructional faculty as needed, both in person and via email.
  • Coordinate property disposition requests, including chemical and material waste disposal, following best practices and safety standards.
  • Maintain regular onsite attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair or Full-Time Instructional Lab Assistant.

  • Ability to lift and carry laboratory equipment as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thirty (30) credit hours of higher education OR 30 credits in the field of specialty or closely related area (or determined by department).
  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work enthusiastically with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated understanding and respect for standard laboratory policies, protocols, and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrated computer ability in current WCC office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication and the use of office communication technology when interacting with faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately handle confidential materials, prioritize tasks, and organize own workload.
