Purpose
The Fleet Technician II performs a wider range of maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on company vehicles and equipment, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. This role requires a higher level of skill and experience than the Fleet Technician I, with the ability to work more independently, diagnose complex issues, and perform more advanced repairs. The Technician II may also provide guidance and training to less experienced team members.
Responsibilities- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other system malfunctions on various types of vehicles and equipment.
- Use diagnostic equipment, specialized tools, and technical manuals to diagnose and repair vehicle and equipment problems accurately.
- Perform more advanced repairs and replacements of components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical systems.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts inventory.
- Follow safety procedures and protocols meticulously to ensure a safe working environment and comply with all relevant regulations (e.g., DOT, OSHA).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist with vehicle and equipment washing and detailing as needed.
- Provide guidance and training to Fleet Technician I staff on maintenance procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
- May be responsible for coordinating with external vendors for specialized repairs or parts.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment (e.g., scan tools, multimeters), and specialized tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose complex malfunctions accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and guide other team members.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks and maintaining records.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with fleet management software or maintenance tracking systems are beneficial.
- Valid driver s license (may be required depending on the role and company policy), potentially with endorsements for specific vehicle types (e.g., CDL).
Education
- High school diploma or GED
Experience
- 2+ years of experience
