The Assistant Operations Manager for Manatt’s Ready Mix division supports the Operations Manager by executing delegated operational, safety, compliance, and employee-related responsibilities. This role helps ensure consistent processes, accurate reporting, and follow-through on initiatives that improve safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The Assistant Operations Manager works closely with Plant Managers, Maintenance Leads, and Shop Leads through a dotted-line relationship, assisting as needed with coaching, discipline, and operational support, but without direct supervisory responsibility.

Leadership & Culture
  • Support the Operations Manager in reinforcing Manatt’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Assist with communication of initiatives, updates, and process changes to Plant Managers and their teams.
  • Participate in onboarding, training, and development activities as delegated.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to ensure accountability across teams.
Safety & Compliance
  • Assist the Operations Manager and Safety Team with safety audits, tracking corrective actions, and compliance documentation.
  • Support training efforts and reinforce safe practices during plant visits.
  • Help investigate incidents and ensure corrective actions are completed.
Operations & Efficiency
  • Carry out delegated tasks related to production, scheduling, equipment, and plant performance tracking.
  • Follow up on preventative maintenance schedules with Maintenance Leads.
  • Support process improvement, system rollouts, and operational standardization projects.
  • Track and report operational KPIs, cost data, and resource utilization.
Customer Service & Quality
  • Assist in documenting and following up on customer or product quality issues.
  • Support quality control teams in coordinating responses to plant or delivery concerns.
  • Support rollout, training, and monitoring of technology systems (e.g., Command Batch, Camera Systems, Concrete Go, Geotab, iStrada).
  • Provide troubleshooting support and track adoption across locations.
Employee Relations
  • Conduct employee discipline conversations, performance discussions, and follow-up coaching as delegated by the Operations Manager.
  • Support the hiring, onboarding, and documentation process in partnership with the Operations Manager.
  • Maintain accountability through dotted-line support relationships with Plant Managers and Leads.
Administrative & Reporting
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and data summaries for review by the Operations Manager and General Manager.
  • Assist with scheduling meetings, site visits, and follow-up activities.
  • Help organize documentation for performance reviews and development planning.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required;
    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in ready mix, asphalt, or construction is required.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
Core Competencies
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to jobsite, plant, and transportation safety standards and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of ready-mix operations, logistics, and plant and truck maintenance, with a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills, ability to provide feedback, and lead multiple teams across locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess situations, analyze data, prioritize tasks and make sound decisions under pressure.
