The City of Ankeny, Iowa is seeking applicants for the fulltime position of Records Clerk in the Police Department.

The Records Clerk performs work under supervision; to assist in daily activities and operations of the police division by completing a variety of routine clerical tasks to provide and maintain accurate and effective information records of various kinds in support of police department programs; and to perform related duties as required.

Starting salary is $26.26 - $30.40 per hour, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.

Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

To advance in the hiring process you must pass a basic skills exam exam to be administered to all qualified applicants. Additional information will be emailed on Monday, March 23, 2026. Please check your email (and junk email) for testing information.

* Prepares, scans and stores all division records for permanent files.

* Performs miscellaneous clerical duties including entering data into computer, filing, preparing statistical reports, maintaining supplies, and answering telephones.

* Coordinates and records alarm permits and related false alarm tracking.

* Prepares and tabulates activity reports as required.

* Provides vehicle impound releases to the public.

* Prepares parking citation notifications on unpaid tickets.

* Maintains accurate record of monies received for insurance reports, records requests, fingerprints and alarm fees.

* Compiles and maintains monthly subpoena information for all members of the Department.

* Assists the public with inquiries and performs support activities as required.

* Prepares and maintains a variety of staff support records and tracking of daily staff activities as needed.

* Meets and greets and interacts directly with customers at the lobby window and provide assistance with their requests.

* Utilizes redaction tools and software to perform video and document redaction in compliance with the Records Maintenance and Release Policy and Iowa Code Chapter 22.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:

Ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with a high level of integrity and a strong commitment to public service. They will possess exceptional organizational skills, sound judgement, and the ability anticipate needs and streamline operations of the Police Department.

* Graduation from high school or an equivalent.

* Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions as well as established division policies and routines; knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment, including Microsoft software applications; ability to maintain accurate written records and statistical reports, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with division personnel.  Ability to interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner.

* Ability to obtain Iowa/NCIC certification within six months of appointment.  Must be able to maintain confidentiality when it pertains to information contained in department case reports and records.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* Works in office environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Must be insurable.

* Must be sighted.

* Must be able to hear normal conversation.

* Must be able to speak clearly at normal rate of conversation.

* Must keep regular and reliable attendance at work.

* Must be able to lift, pick up and/or carry equipment up to 30 pounds.

* Must be able to walk up and down a flight of stairs, sit or stand for long periods of time.
