Pool is open 7 days a week, 8:00 am – 8:00 p.m. Day, evening, and weekend work will be required (hours will vary)
Pre-season training will be required- determined after hiring

Summary of PositionUnder direction of the Recreation Manager and Assistant Manager, supervise assigned areas of the aquatic facility according to guidelines established by the American Red Cross and the City of Anoka. Day, evening, and weekend work will be required. Outdoor position which requires adapting to a variety of conditions.
Lifeguard Instructors will be designated by the Recreation Manager. Lifeguard Instructors require an (LGI) certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prevention of accidents both in the water and the pool deck.
- Enforcing rules and explaining the causes of aquatic accidents.
- Communicate with the public with a positive and professional attitude. Provide pleasant, proactive, and approachable customer service.
- Maintaining the readiness and availability of rescue equipment in the facility.
- Evaluating the swimming abilities of all people using the pool. Test as needed.
- Perform regular guard duties as assigned. Enforce all pool safety rules, regulations, and policies in a professional manner. Maintain surveillance of your assigned area and avoid distractions. Supervise pool deck and swim areas, being alert to swimmers who may need assistance.
- Provide rescue and emergency care to incident victims.
- Help with daily maintenance procedures in all areas of the facility including restroom and locker rooms.
- Responsible for attending all staff meetings and required number of in-service training sessions. Maintain the required level of physical fitness, per Red Cross training requirements.
- Assist in opening and closing duties.
- Comply with established policies and procedures for employees of the City of Anoka.
- Complete accident and incident reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
- Must be age 15 or older by the time you start employment.
- No experience necessary to apply.
- CPR and First Aid Certificates are required or must be able to obtain.
- Current Lifeguard Training (01) Certificate, or able to obtain.
- Current Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI), or able to obtain.
- Willing to work a schedule that may include day, evening, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to interact with the public in a positive manner.
- Ability to work under a variety of weather conditions.
- Experience as a lifeguard.
- Customer service experience.
- Start $14.00/hr
- After 1 year $15.00/hr
- After 2 years $16.00/hr
- $19.00/hr (with Lifeguard Instructor Certification)
* NOTE:
“Pool Lead” (which can include: Cashier Leads or Lifeguard Leads) add $1.00/hour. This will be submitted by Public Services to Payroll at time of payroll entry.
