Overview
Under the supervision of the Water/ Sewer Superintendent and General Foreman, perform generally routine semi-skilled manual work and motorized equipment operation involved in the repair, replacement, maintenance, installation and operation of the water distribution, sanitary sewer collection system and other activities following established methods and procedures.
Other Duties- Operate various size trucks, tractors, backhoes and other motorized equipment for transport of materials and personnel; remove and dispose of soil and perform other related duties related to the water delivery and sewage collection area.
- Operate equipment to install, repair replace, maintain and operate water mains, water services, hydrants, valves, meters and to dig or excavate trenches, holes and such.
- Identify valves and breaks in water mains.
- Respond to emergency situations involving water main and service breaks, sanitary and house correction blockages and breaks, flooding, severe storms, snow and ice control.
- Schedule inspection and operating procedures in the cleaning, servicing and repair of sanitary sewers.
- Monitor and maintain job site safety and compliance to established regulations.
- Maintain established quality and quantity standards. Follow prescribed safety precautions, established department and Town policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions. Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean, orderly, operational and safe condition.
- Maintain records of work completed.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Ability to operate motorized vehicles and excavating equipment.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and to perform continuous physical labor duties under adverse weather and operating conditions.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to use or operate hand and power tools, motorized equipment and vehicles.
- Basic knowledge of water and sewage lines upkeep and maintenance.
- Knowledge of water distribution systems and sewage collection systems.
Duties require high school diploma; 5 years’ experience in water delivery and sewer collection maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid CDL Class B, and Hoisting license Class 2B are prerequisites. Position requires a Massachusetts Grade III Distribution Certification License or the ability to obtain within one year. Please note Drug and Alcohol screening is a condition of employment.

Physical Elements- Frequent and extended periods of outside work, subject to all weather conditions and extremes.
- Continuous walking, standing, climbing, frequent periods requiring sustained uncomfortable physical positions, strenuous physical exertion, ability to lift, carry and position heavy objects.
- Work with loud noise levels and high vibrations from operating specific equipment.
- Exercise caution when operating heavy equipment.
FLSA Status:
Non-exempt
Grade: W6 with CDL, D3 Operator and Hoisting
Standard Work Week: 40 hours
