Overview
What This Job Involves As an HVAC / Mechanical Technician, you will leverage your advanced technical expertise to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment within a Life Science environment. This role involves supporting complex facility operations where precision, compliance, and safety are essential, while acting as a liaison between vendors, facilities staff, finance teams, and clients to ensure seamless execution of laboratory and facility activities.
You will play a key part in upholding operational excellence, driving reliability improvements, and enhancing client satisfaction through effective service delivery and problem-solving in a highly regulated setting.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
- Perform service to pumps, fans, kitchen equipment, dishwashers, a variety of plumbing fixtures, and other mechanical equipment as necessary.
- Utilize the building automation system to track building conditions and the operation of facilities equipment.
- Assist lower-level technicians with work assignments and coach as appropriate.
- Create and modify site operations procedures for equipment and recommend facilities reliability improvements.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and related control systems as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Perform mechanical upgrades and installations in accordance with code requirements and manufacturers recommendations.
- Utilize strong computer skills to complete and document work as well as communicate with customers and the Client.
- Respond and provide service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations, site policies and industry standards.
- Under general supervision, perform tasks that reflect substantial variety and complexity, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Recommend measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
- Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist workers in solving work problems.
- Understand company policies and enforce safety regulations.
- Safely perform functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as required.
- Operate various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.
- Operate a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.
- Maintain a strict schedule in order to be successful in the assignment.
- Be flexible in day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
- Provide adequate response to a variety of facility issues to include plumbing, electrical, roofing and other carpentry emergencies.
- Must have availability to respond to after-hours emergencies on-site only as needed.
- Must have ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
- High School graduate or GED
- Experience with work order management systems
- At least 2 years of experience with maintenance & repair of commercial HVAC systems
- Proficiency with standard office software and documentation systems
- Universal EPA 608 refrigerant handling Certification or demonstrated equivalent
- Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and bend/stoop/squat as required
- Previous experience in Life Science or controlled environmental facilities
- Background in facility management and operations
- Experience with KPI tracking and performance measurement
- Knowledge of emergency response planning and safety protocols
- Familiarity with Life Science Regulatory Requirements and Compliance
- Background in inventory management systems
- Strong interpersonal skills for client relationship management

6:00am – 2:00pm, Monday – Friday (Rotating on-call)
