Position OverviewWe are seeking a results-oriented Business Development Manager (BDM) to lead regional growth initiatives by originating, developing, and closing new business opportunities. This is a hunter role requiring strong technical credibility, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to develop long‑term customer relationships while driving revenue growth.
The ideal candidate has experience in landfill, wastewater, or adjacent environmental and industrial markets, is entrepreneurial, thrives in a fast‑paced environment, and excels at selling technically complex solutions to industrial and commercial clients.
Key Responsibilities- New Business Origination: Proactively identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities within assigned regions. Build and manage a robust pipeline of qualified prospects.
- Consultative, Technical Selling: Understand and translate customer needs into tailored technical solutions. Communicate technical value propositions with clarity and credibility to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Territory & Account Strategy: Create and execute strategic sales plans that drive revenue and expand market presence. Align business development efforts with Heartland’s go-to-market strategy.
- Industry Insight: Maintain deep understanding of the competitive landscape, customer trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies within the environmental, water, and waste management sectors.
- CRM & Sales Process Management: Use CRM tools and sales data to manage pipeline, forecast revenue, and track performance. Drive prospects through the full sales cycle to signed contract and successful implementation.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead customer contract discussions in collaboration with legal, technical, and operations teams to ensure alignment and successful project launch.
- Brand Representation: Represent Heartland at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings to promote brand awareness and thought leadership.

Experience:
Minimum of 7+ years of successful technical sales experience in industrial water treatment, environmental services, or related sectors. - Technical Aptitude: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related technical field preferred.
- Sales Hunter Mentality: Demonstrated ability to generate new leads, open doors, and close complex deals with long sales cycles.
- Relationship Builder: Proven success building and maintaining relationships with senior decision-makers in target industries.
- Strong Communicator: Excellent presentation, negotiation, and written communication skills.
- Self-Starter: Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable operating independently in a remote or field‑based capacity.
- Travel Ready: Willing and able to travel 40%+; must reside within reasonable distance of a major airport.
