The Staff Accountant is a key member of the service-delivery team, primarily responsible for managing the accounts receivable (A/R) revenue cycles and comprehensive bank reconciliations. This role ensures the accuracy of diverse revenue streams—including donations, memberships, and product sales—across multiple sub-systems. The Staff Accountant maintains GAAP compliance, supports internal controls, and assists with month-end closing, audits, and regulatory filings.
Key Responsibilities Cash Management & Banking- Verifies and records daily cash and ACH receipts across multiple bank accounts via online portals.
- Updates bank templates for Comerica funding and manages replenishment/reconciliations for camp bank accounts.
- Executes bank, clearing account, and pledge receivable reconciliations, ensuring all clearing accounts are resolved monthly.
- Donations & Pledges:
Processes revenue pledges and credit card batches; coordinates with Fund Development to ensure G/L and Raiser’s Edge alignment. - Program & Membership:
Tracks camp receipts via Camp Minder and membership income/refunds utilizing Salesforce and Net Suite.
- Performs daily G/L entries and maintains supporting Excel schedules for invested assets and endowments.
- Prepares and files sales tax returns for shop activity.
- Serves as a point of person for compliance and reporting on institutional and capital grants.
- Assists in the preparation of audit schedules (Financial, Workers’ Comp, Pension) and tax returns.
- Collaborates with the Finance team to standardize accounting practices and internal controls.
- Provides backup support for key finance functions and assists with the capitalization/depreciation of fixed assets.
- High School diploma required and bachelor's degree in accounting and finance preferred
- 2 years of accounting experience required and preferably an additional one year in a non-profit environment
- Technically proficient with excel required with advanced excel (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables) preferred
- Experience with integrated accounting systems (MIP, Net Suite, or Salesforce) highly preferred
- Core Competencies:
High degree of accuracy, ability to manage high-volume data entry, and strong analytical problem-solving skills required
