Reports to:
Building Principal
Purpose:To provide high-quality, evidence-based structured literacy instruction to students with reading challenges and to support the implementation of a multi-tiered system of supports for reading.
Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:- Licensed educator with a minimum of three years of teaching experience; reading specialist endorsement preferred
- Familiar with Kansas dyslexia recommendations and initiatives
- LETRS training preferred
- Experience with Kansas Multi-Tier System of Supports for Reading (MTSS) preferred
- Effective communication skills
- Strong time management skills
- Able to exhibit flexibility and respond to changing needs/priorities in a professional manner
- Ensure required universal reading screeners, diagnostics, and progress monitoring assessments are administered in a timely manner.
- Facilitate data analysis meetings with classroom and special education teachers on a regular basis, and use Kansas MTSS Reading processes for grouping students for intervention instruction.
- Provide reading intervention instruction to small groups of students using provided high-quality instructional materials with fidelity.
- Support teachers who provide reading intervention instruction by identifying appropriate resources, providing training, and extending ongoing support.
- Guide and support the implementation of structured literacy practices across the school in all disciplines to strengthen core tier 1 instruction, including the use of building-wide reading strategies.
- Collaborate with building leadership to determine professional learning needs in the area of reading and literacy, including dyslexia.
- Design and facilitate professional learning related to reading, literacy, and dyslexia.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning and collaboration related to structured literacy and dyslexia.
- Other duties as assigned.
Environmental Conditions:
- Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
- Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and/or reach.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
