Duties & Responsibilities
- Greets incoming patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner. Registers patients into the computer system for each encounter by obtaining accurate demographic and insurance information. Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility using insurance verification software and/or payer websites. Verifies the identity of all patients.
- Initiates upfront collections advising patients of any co-pay, deductible and deposit amounts. Provides necessary information to self-pay patients, including self-pay discounts, payment plans and referring to Office Manager/Supervisor and/or the Billing Office as needed.
- Ensures appropriate forms are signed and, if applicable, scanned into the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner. Maintains proficient knowledge of scanning and indexing information for the patient record.
- Courteously and quickly answers incoming phone calls and routes to the appropriate person or creates a detailed message in the EHR for practice staff. Appropriately uses telephone and intercom system. Adheres to the policy that direct patient care should not be interrupted unless absolutely necessary.
Required
- High school graduate or possess GED
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- General office skills, including typing, use of computers and everyday job performance.
- Efficiency in using internet/email, EHR and data entry
- Medical office experience preferred
- Medical terminology and insurance experience
