Position: Paramedic (Quick Response Vehicle)

Overview

Summary:

A QRV (Quick Response Vehicle) paramedic responds from a rapid response vehicle that is equipped to provide emergency medical care in both the emergency and non‑emergency environment. A QRV paramedic will rendezvous with another med unit, typically staffed with a BLS‑level crew, and provide ALS care on scene and throughout transport. This requires strong decision‑making skills and the ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Ensures compliance with all South Carolina Department of Public Health rules and regulations related to Emergency Medical Services. Checks and maintains all ambulance equipment and vehicle to ensure it is clean and in proper working condition. Maintains all company required licenses and certifications for an EMT-P position. Must hold a State of South Carolina Driver’s License. Must attend mandatory training in addition to all EMT‑P required courses.

Follow all company policies and procedures including company medical director approved protocols and standing orders. Employees hired into this position are subject to a six‑month introductory probationary period.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to all calls for service dispatched by the Medshore Communications center as directed.
  • Provide rapid response to emergency medical calls from an SUV to rendezvous with a responding BLS crew.
  • Operate independently in the field and maintain equipment, including the vehicle and all medical equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Collaborate effectively with other first responders to provide coordinated care in emergency situations.
  • Communicate with EMS team members (EMTs, paramedics, and other medical staff) to provide accurate and timely information about the patient’s condition and treatment.
  • Be flexible in assisting staffing by being willing to work on an ambulance when needed.
  • Provide care and treatment to patients according to company policy and the company medical director protocols.
  • Ensure ambulance/assigned vehicle and equipment are cleaned and checked daily; report deficiencies to the shift supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Prepare and complete appropriate reports including Patient Care Reports (PCR), billing, exposure reports, incident reports, and unit check offs (daily, weekly, monthly).
  • Ensure unit and crew members adhere to Medshore Ambulance Service policies, procedures, guidelines, directives, and standards.
  • Report any deficiencies to the shift supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Ensure vehicle placed in service complies with applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements as outlined by the State of South Carolina and other authorized agencies.
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance at work and mandatory meetings.
  • Maintain readiness and professionalism while on duty; maintain a professional appearance and conduct in company uniform, on or off duty.
  • Be self‑motivated with little supervision and direction.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on‑site emergency medical services.
  • Knowledge of company medical director approved protocols and standing orders.
  • Ability to read and interpret local maps.
  • Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous and rapidly emergent tasks.
  • Ability to read and understand medical terminology.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence and to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care and operations.
  • Ability to utilize personal computer systems including PCR reporting, email, and MDT applications.
  • Ability to represent Medshore Ambulance Service and team members as EMS professionals.
Working Environment

Due to the nature of EMS care, employees may be exposed to inclement weather, potentially hazardous conditions, psychological stressors, diseases, and other illnesses. Frequent interruptions, work pressure, difficult personalities, and irregular work schedules are expected. Employee may be required to attend meetings outside of regular hours. Periods of sleep deprivation may occur as determined by call load.
