Overview

Global Diving & Salvage, Inc. is currently seeking a Vessel Captain for our Anchorage, AK location.

Position Description
The vessel captain is responsible for commanding, operating, and navigating Alaska Region vessels on all operations in offshore oil and gas, marine construction, or salvage environments. This includes master in charge of safe operations for the vessel and safety of the crew, and maintenance of vessel records to ensure regulatory reporting as it relates to the vessel. Follows all company procedures and follows USCG maritime rules and regulations.

In addition, the vessel captain is also responsible for providing oversight and management of Global dive vessels and corresponding equipment within the Alaska Region.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the safe navigation and operation of the company boat operating in Alaska
  • Control lines to moor vessel to wharves, tie up vessel to another vessel, or rig towing lines
  • Handle mooring lines and rigging to launch or dock the boat
  • Responsible for getting underway, mooring, anchoring, handling lines, ship's ramps, and shore side facilities in all weather conditions
  • Perform lookout duties while underway, including watching for other vessels, monitoring traffic conditions and potential unsafe conditions onboard and otherwise
  • Ensure crew and passengers adhere to safety standards
  • Prepare boat prior to each trip and demobilize the boat following each trip
  • Maintain accurate ship logs
  • Carry out and complete assigned tasks within legal requirements of USCG and other regulatory agencies
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, drills, and safety audits as required by USCG & company policy
  • Provide Engineering-Maintenance Support for all ships systems
  • Including mechanical repair of engines, generators, and ships systems
  • Provide recommendations for repair and organize/recommend repair contractors as required for repairs beyond capabilities
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose marine systems for repairs at sea
  • Keep vessel and equipment maintained by performing a variety of maintenance and cleaning duties
  • Perform maintenance and construction tasks as required
  • Perform minor engineering repairs and engineering rounds as directed
  • Support repair and maintenance cost management within budgeted R&M
  • Support maintenance of long-term upgrade/maintenance plan and estimating annual R&M Budget recommendations and providing prioritized annual R&M recommendations
  • Perform vessel maintenance to include scraping, painting, and changing all oil and filters, lubricate machinery and equipment, splices and repairs cables and ropes using hand tools
  • Ensure that safety equipment is utilized, and appropriate guidelines are followed for all tasks involving physical risk or hazardous materials
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Drive company vehicles as needed
Typical Schedule for Full-Time Employees
  • Must be available
  • On a variable basis
  • For large percentage of available work and attentive to communications for job scheduling changes
Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Experience
  • Must be 19 years of age or older
  • Maritime experience required (workboat experience preferred, 50 ton or above)
  • Heavy equipment experiences preferred
Knowledge/Skills
  • Passport and TWIC card
  • HAZWOPER
  • Current GDS mandatory training and other required programs provided by GDS
  • Medical PIC preferred
  • UCSG Master License currently held or previously held; navigation experience, proof of sea time
  • Experience operating vessel in dynamic environment
  • Previous DSV (Dive Support Vessel) experience preferred
  • Experience Alaska navigation of tides, currents
  • Annual medical physical (if USCG licensed holder, must have USCG physical in addition)
Physical/Mental Requirements
  • Ability to work any day of the week both night and day; available for after hour emergency response
  • Ability to complete pre-employment drug test and participate in random drug and alcohol testing program
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check
  • Ability to lift from floor to waist, push and pull up to 50lbs occasionally up to 12 times per shift
