Attention Alaska Residents Only!The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT & PF), Anchorage International Airport, is looking for multiple Equipment Operator, Sub‑Journey 1 positions to help us keep Alaska moving.
Position OverviewEquipment Operator Sub‑Journey 1 handles a variety of tasks essential to the smooth operation and upkeep of the airport and its facilities. Responsibilities include operating light trucks and small tractors, utilizing hand and power tools, transporting supplies and materials vital for maintenance, and efficiently loading and unloading trucks.
The operator performs manual labor such as clearing ditches and culverts, trimming brush, contributing to bridge and structure repairs, erecting and maintaining signs and markers, and keeping the airport grounds clean. During adverse weather, the operator shovels snow from sidewalks, runway edge lights, and aircraft operating areas and also provides groundskeeping duties. In emergencies, the operator assists the emergency crew and supports the upkeep of air taxi and related service shacks.

The airport is the largest in Alaska and the fourth busiest cargo airport worldwide. The Airfield Maintenance Station works closely with regulatory bodies to uphold FAR Part 139 and TSA 1542 compliance.

Working EnvironmentThis position is located at Anchorage International Airport. The role requires maintaining and improving critical transportation infrastructure in a state with expansive terrain and extreme weather conditions. Staff work in both remote locations and urban centers, requiring adaptability and resourcefulness for roads, bridges, airports, ports, and public facilities.

- This position is also eligible for overtime and shift differential.
- Incumbent must hold a valid Alaska driver’s license per state specifications throughout employment. Loss of license is grounds for immediate dismissal.
- Incumbent must successfully pass both a fingerprint‑based criminal history records check (49 CFR Part 1542) and a TSA security threat assessment to obtain and maintain an airport .
