Overview
Join Alaska Village Electric Cooperative as a Journeyman Lineman in the Alaskan landscape. This onsite role offers the opportunity to tackle the challenges of electric utility service in a rural environment, contribute to local communities, and enhance your skills as a lineman with AVEC.

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative is a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation includes 46 small, isolated grids relying on diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.
What does a Journeyman Lineman do?You will play a crucial role in delivering reliable electric utility services to Members. You will organize, direct, and perform essential construction work on-site to support our diesel generation and distribution systems. You will respond to outages and emergencies to restore power promptly, identify and correct operational issues, and conduct maintenance and repairs on our distribution systems and power plants while adhering to safety protocols.
As a representative of AVEC, you will maintain positive relations with the Village Council and Member-Owners to foster understanding of our core values, mission, and goals.

QualificationsTo excel as a Journeyman Lineman at AVEC, you should possess a robust skill set and relevant qualifications:
- Minimum five years of experience in electrical power distribution
- Experience in rural Alaska is preferred
- Journeyman Power Lineman certification from the State of Alaska
- Successful completion of a lineman apprenticeship program
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
Proficiency with specialized tools and software related to electric utility work is beneficial for efficient response to operational issues and system maintenance.
