Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Responsible for all aspects of Gallery staffing, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, scheduling, supervision, coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action in partnership with Human Resources.
- Provide strong day-to-day leadership to the Gallery team by delegating tasks, setting expectations, and ensuring staff receive ongoing training and support.
- Responsible for providing staff support for Admissions, overseeing point-of-sales procedures and ensuring execution of cash, credit, tour operator sales.
- Ensure exceptional customer service and uphold ANHC’s cultural values by modeling and reinforcing high hospitality standards.
- Oversee inventory management, including ordering, receiving, stock rotation, recordkeeping, and timely invoice processing.
- Design and maintain visually compelling merchandise displays that align with marketing strategies, seasonal priorities, and customer demand.
- Responsible for identifying sales, revenue targets and maximizing revenue goals.
- Serve as the primary buyer for the Gallery; work directly with Alaska Native artists, vendors, and product representatives to source culturally appropriate, marketable, and high-quality goods.
- Manage the online Gallery store, ensuring product accuracy, inventory integrity, marketing alignment, and order fulfillment.
- Collaborate with Communications and Development to plan and execute marketing campaigns, promotions, and sales strategies that strengthen visibility and revenue.
- Support ANHC fundraising initiatives by coordinating retail components such as silent auctions, surprise boxes, and merchandise-based fundraising activities.
- Represent ANHC at community bazaars, markets, and events; oversee booth logistics, merchandise selection, and staff scheduling.
- Maintain strong working relationships across departments to support organization-wide goals and operational efficiency.
- Ensure the Gallery remains safe, clean, organized, and welcoming for staff, artists, and guests.
- Provide accurate and culturally grounded information to visitors about ANHC, Alaska Native cultures, and artisan work.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support social enterprise operations and ANHC’s mission.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft professional correspondence, reports, merchandising notes, and customer-facing materials with clarity and accuracy.
- Ability to speak clearly and persuasively, facilitate discussions, respond to questions, and participate confidently in meetings and group presentations.
- Advanced writing and editing skills, including the ability to present numerical data (e.g., sales reports, inventory metrics) and adapt writing to various audiences.
- Proven leadership skills with experience guiding, motivating, and developing staff in a retail environment.
- Ability to interpret and carry out written and verbal instructions with precision and attention to detail.
- Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Square, online platforms, and retail/event management software.
- Strong cross-department collaboration skills with the ability to co-design processes and support larger organizational initiatives.
- Outgoing, positive, and solutions-oriented attitude with strong initiative and follow-through.
- Ability to work respectfully and professionally with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Alaska Native artists, Elders, and community members.
- Exceptional customer service skills, particularly in high-volume or high-pressure situations.
- Skilled in conflict resolution, including de-escalation, confidentiality, and facilitating positive outcomes.
- High emotional intelligence, including active listening, empathy, openness to feedback, and adaptability.
- High school diploma required; additional coursework in merchandising, business administration, retail management, or related fields preferred.
