Job Statement/Purpose

Under the supervision of the Café Supervisor, the barista provides an exceptional level of service and provides excellent, friendly and knowledgeable customer service and maintains the highest level of professionalism and coffee and food quality. The barista role should be highly motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to communicate well with others and learn new skills.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks such as coffee, tea, specialty beverages, and café food items
  • Cleaning and sanitizing work areas, utensils, and equipment.
  • Cleaning service and seating areas.
  • Servicing customers and taking orders.
  • Ordering, receiving, and distributing stock supplies.
  • Receiving and processing customer payments.
  • Handling a cash register and cash including end of shift close out and preparing bank deposit drops.
  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply, stocking coffee brewing equipment and maintaining supplies and informs the Café supervisory of inventory to be ordered.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and informing the supervisor of needed repairs.

Physical Requirements /Working Conditions
  • Weather:
    Indoors:
    Primarily in an environmentally controlled Cafe; requires most or all work to be done inside.
  • Noise Level: Quiet to moderate.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Minimum Qualifications
  • One year of retail, hospitality, food service and/or customer service experience.
  • Food Handlers Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to be insured under ANHC’s insurance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • +1-3 years of retail, hospitality, and/or customer service experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the social, health, educational, training, and cultural needs of the Alaska Native/American Indian community.
