Location: Primary office in Anchorage, Alaska with occasional weekends and overnight travel throughout Alaska due to events.

General Information: Special Olympics Alaska provides year‑round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic‑type sports for people with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, and other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Position Summary: Special Olympics Alaska (SO‑AK) seeks an enthusiastic, creative and hardworking Marketing and Communications Manager to assist in the planning and execution of its annual marketing and communications plan. The Marketing & Communications Manager will help lead the development of strategies for PR, advertising, and digital marketing to establish and expand brand awareness, stories and sporting events and fundraisers throughout Alaska.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or journalism preferred
  • 3‑5 years’ experience in communications, media relations or marketing preferred
  • Commitment/passion to working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and the SO‑AK Mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficiency in various social media and graphic design platforms, Word Press, Canva and Adobe applications such as InDesign and Photoshop
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while being organized and meeting deadlines
  • Project leadership skills and the ability to excel in a fluid, cross‑functional and collaborative team environment
  • Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Must pass SO‑AK background check
Supervisor and Evaluation

Supervised by: Vice President of Development & Communications.
Evaluated by: Vice President of Development & Communications and the President/CEO.

Responsibilities include
  • Manage brand and logo guidelines to ensure a consistent, accurate and positive representation of SO‑AK in all communications and marketing efforts, both internally and externally.
  • Manage photographers and videographers.
  • Curate and maintain digital photo and video library for SO‑AK promotional and educational needs.
  • Maintain SO‑AK website and social media platforms (Facebook, Tik Tok, Linked In, Instagram).
  • Coordinate the design and publication of printed and digital materials for advertisements, fact sheets and all event‑oriented pieces to include but not limited to Pick.

    Give, Annual Gala, Integrated Direct Marketing Fundraising (IDMP), Law Enforcement Torch Run and Pledge Drive, BOMA Golf Tournament, Alaska Distance Classic, Breakfast with Champions, Raffles, Wine & Whiskey Auction and Polar Plunge.
  • Manage all marketing, publicity and media activities for all Sports Events and Major Fundraising Events, to include news releases, programs, on‑site media and advertising.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key media members to amplify messages and maximize impact for program and fundraising events.
  • Assist with crisis communication efforts.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding media impressions and advertisement placements, creating reports to help measure success.
  • Support all departments with marketing materials for events and volunteer outreach.
  • Assist staff with state tournaments and events.
  • Assist staff with ensuring compliance with the general rules, policies and standards of Special Olympics Alaska.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President of Development & Communications or President/CEO.
Wage and Benefits

Wage is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full‑time exempt salary position with benefits. Benefits include holidays, vacation, sick and personal leave, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(K)‑retirement plan.
