ESS is looking for a Project Manager for our Alaska Railroad Contract!
A Project Manager manages all physical and financial aspects of the Alaska Railroad Food Service Project.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOther duties may be assigned.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesAt any one time, manages 4-6 supervisors who supervise up to 20 employees providing food and facility service. Directly supervises 3-4 non-supervisory associates. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Approves hiring of all personnel, including assistant managers, food service managers, servers/bartenders, culinary staff, and stockers.
- Sets expectations for each team position, including uniforms, grooming standards, safety policies, and area responsibilities.
- Develops all service and culinary standards with assistance from Assistant Managers and Culinary Advisor/Executive Chef.
- Develops and ensures scheduling adherence.
- Interfaces with ARR Guest Services Management Team.
- Ensures all HR paperwork is completed and filed with HR department.
- Develops and implements training for Assistant Managers and onboard supervisors.
- Handles disciplinary measures as needed.
- Manages all financial aspects of the project.
- Ensures employee payroll information is entered correctly and on time.
- Has good working knowledge of finance and cash handling.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Quick Books.
- Works with Sr. Accountant on financial reporting.
- Develops invoicing and follow-up procedures.
- Maintains daily petty cash account.
- Has good working knowledge of POS System and troubleshooting.
- Ensures the project stays within budgetary guidelines.
- Ensures daily cash, credit card, and other deposits are made.
- Ensures accuracy of monthly reports to ARR Management.
- Develops annual budget for food service and janitorial projects.
- Adheres to corporate cash handling procedures.
- Maintains records for fuel and maintenance, reviewing weekly.
- Works with the Executive Chef on menu development, recipes, and standards.
- Works with the Executive Chef on training aspects.
- Ensures food purchases are through primary vendors and costs are within budget.
- Develops beverage menus, costing, and merchandising.
- Ensures all ESS safety policies are met.
- Works with ESS HSE Manager on forms and filings.
- Ensures ARR safety policies are followed.
- Works with ESS HSE Manager on accident reporting and follow-up.
- Maintains a zero recordable incident rate.
- Tams, Tipps or Tap, Serv Safe Food Protection Manager.
Ten years of food service experience in a restaurant or banquet setting, with 5 years supervisory experience, or similar experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read, interpret documents, write routine reports/orders, and speak effectively before customers.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform basic calculations such as discounts.
Computer SkillsProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Other QualificationsOccasional rail car rides requiring 16 hours of continuous work. Off-season oversight of other ESS projects may be required.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to stand, handle, reach, balance, talk, hear, taste, and smell. Frequently required to stoop and lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, peripheral, and depth perception.
Reasoning AbilityApply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
Work EnvironmentExposure to moving mechanical parts, heat, motion, chemicals. Moderately loud noise level. Reasonable accommodations can be made for disabilities.
