It applies the latest science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense and other public lands, providing technical support, applied research, and career development opportunities to support resource stewardship.
Job DescriptionThis position supports the technical and operational maintenance of tools and equipment in a federal environment. The successful candidate will perform field maintenance, inspections, and safety procedures to ensure equipment readiness for use on Joint Base Elmendorf‑Richardson.
LocationJoint Base Elmendorf‑Richardson (JBER), near Anchorage, AK, covering over 84,000 acres.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- At least three months experience utilizing manual hand tools and handheld power equipment (e.g., trimmers, brush cutters, chainsaws)
- At least three months experience performing operational maintenance and inspections on all tools and equipment (e.g., checking fluids, changing filters, sharpening blades, lubricating equipment)
- Ability to follow directions, work collaboratively in a team, and maintain safe working standards
- Proficient verbal and written English communication skills
- Ability to lift 40 pounds repeatedly without assistance
- Ability to walk long distances in adverse terrain and weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license or eligibility to obtain one by the start date
- Completion of a NACI/SF85 and successful passing of a federal background check and motor vehicle check
- Compliance with all regulations required for a Department of Defense Common Access Card and public trust clearance
- Eligibility to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship will be provided
- One year or more experience utilizing manual hand tools and handheld power equipment
- One year or more experience performing operational maintenance and inspections on all tools and equipment
- Completion of a chainsaw training course
- Experience or education in forestry or a similar discipline
- Experience operating all‑terrain vehicles and driving 4x4 vehicles with trailers
- Experience navigating with maps, GPS, and compasses
- Experience working on military lands
Technician salary starts at $22.00 per hour and may increase with experience, qualifications, and location. Continuation of the position depends on funding availability.
