Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This is a non‑represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage. The Network Engineer is responsible for the maintenance of the entire Municipal Enterprise Network. This position analyzes network traffic, determines technology standards for the Municipal integrates systems, and determines strategic directions for the Municipal data networks. The role develops strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies, assists in planning, forecasting, implementation and identification of resource requirements for network systems (including wireless) of moderate complexity, designs, installs and troubleshoots network systems to meet functional objectives, deploys new technologies, and performs system integration testing of PC/server operating systems, related utilities and hardware.
The engineer sets standards, integrates technologies, monitors and baselines overall network performance, corrects global network integration problems, and handles global network issues.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent AND ten (10) years of experience in information systems technology, of which four (4) years must have been in the data networking specialty.
- Associate’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline AND eight (8) years of experience in information systems technology, of which four (4) years must have been in the data networking specialty.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline AND six (6) years of experience in information systems technology, of which four (4) years must have been in the data networking specialty.
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 30 days of hire.
