Job DescriptionThe Department of Public Safety (DPS), Division of Statewide Services is recruiting for a Data Processing Manager 1 who will serve as the DPS Networking Lead, managing the department’s network and server infrastructure and collaborating with the State of Alaska Office of Information Technology (OIT) to manage shared enterprise infrastructure.
- Supervise a small team of network and system engineers.
- Coordinate resources and collaborate with DPS, OIT IT teams, vendor partners, and stakeholders to execute projects for critical law enforcement enterprise applications.
- Plan, schedule, execute, and develop support procedures for networking projects.
- Research technologies, recommend solutions, and assist with procurement, including capital, operating, and grant funding requests.
- Represent DPS IT on department projects and advise teams on networking and IT infrastructure solutions.
- Review vendor proposals and ensure compliance with CJIS Compliance and DPS/OIT standards.
- Represent networking needs in SOA working groups and statewide enterprise projects.
- Manage Tier 3 support for network and system issues, ensuring timely resolution of high‑priority issues.
- Monitor technology trends, attend conferences, and engage vendors to stay informed about new products.
- Assess current infrastructure, identify deficiencies, and recommend improvements.
- Work under general supervision of the Data Processing Manager III; provide occasional after‑hours support.
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates competence in:
- Data Systems – hardware and software development and management.
- Database Management Systems – control of data organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity.
- Leadership – influencing, motivating, and developing others.
- Critical Thinking – logical analysis and problem solving.
- Client Engagement/Change Management – understanding impact of changes on people, processes, and culture.
Equivalent experience: progressively responsible professional roles in IT services to business and public users, including prior supervisory responsibility.
