Job Overview

Join the Alaska Court System’s Networking team and help power the systems that keep justice moving! We’re looking for a tech‑savvy problem solver who enjoys working with servers, networks, and cutting‑edge tools. In this role, you’ll install and maintain datacenter/WAN/LAN infrastructure, and manage systems such as Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, Citrix, antivirus software, and more—keeping our critical technology running smoothly.

You’ll troubleshoot network issues, fine‑tune system performance, and ensure users have secure access to the tools they need. From supporting local and wide‑area networks to enhancing digital communication systems, your work will have a real impact every day. You’ll collaborate with state agencies and vendors, plan for emergencies, and help shape the future of court technology.

If you like variety, this job delivers—you’ll even travel to remote court locations across Alaska to set up or repair systems, bringing high‑quality tech support wherever it’s needed.

US CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION TO OBTAIN SECURITY CLEARANCE.

Flexibility

This is a flexibly‑staffed position. Progression to a higher level may occur when the incumbent: completes specified training, meets other terms of the agreement, meets minimum qualifications, is certified by the supervisor as capable, and is approved by Human Resources. When certified, the position may be reclassified to Network Specialist 2.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain datacenter/WAN/LAN infrastructure.

• Manage Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange, SQL, Citrix, antivirus software, and related systems.

• Troubleshoot network issues and fine‑tune performance.

• Ensure secure user access and support local and wide‑area networks.

• Collaborate with state agencies, vendors, and stakeholders.

• Plan for emergencies and help shape future technology initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Effective problem‑solving, multi‑tasking, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience dealing with high‑priority, confidential, or sensitive information.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under tight/high‑pressure deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to accept supervision and direct instruction.
  • Effective, courteous communication.
Preferred Experience
  • Two years of active directory experience within the last three years.
  • One year of VMware experience (Version 7 or higher).
  • One year of Citrix experience (Version 7.15 or higher).
  • One year of Cisco Meraki Security Appliance or similar infrastructure experience.
  • One year of Palo Alto or similar web security software experience.
  • One year of administering a Microsoft Exchange installation (Version 2010 or higher).
  • Experience configuring Cisco routers and switches.
  • Microsoft infrastructure certification, Microsoft Security Certification, CCNA, or relevant certification.
Minimum Qualifications

Three years of professional experience in networking, IT analysis and troubleshooting, system maintenance, computer hardware and software installation, database management; one year of which must be in Microsoft‑based network operating systems.

Substitutions:

  • Two additional years of non‑specific professional experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • One year of non‑specific professional experience may be substituted for Microsoft infrastructure certification, Microsoft Security Certification, CCNA, or relevant certification.
Work Hours

Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with a one‑hour lunch break (37.5 hours per week).
