OverviewSummary of
Job Responsibilities:
The Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Genetic Counselor brings prior clinical experience and serves in a leadership role within the clinical team, providing expert guidance, oversight, and mentorship on genetic topics. Core responsibilities include coordinating clinical tasks and procedures between local and off-site team members, triaging complex referrals, and providing specialized guidance on challenging clinical cases. The Genetic Counselor works collaboratively with physicians and subspecialists, providing professional genetic counseling to customer-owners and families with hereditary diseases and disorders.
They support and coordinate communication between the customer-owner and multidisciplinary teams, assist in diagnosis and evaluation of conditions, and collaborate on care options. In SCF’s health model, the Genetic Counselor acts as the core specialty genetics consultant and has a critical role in directing care for complex medical cases.
- Coordinate clinical tasks and procedures between local and off-site team members
- Triages complex referrals and provides guidance on challenging clinical cases
- Provide professional genetic counseling to customer-owners and families with hereditary conditions
- Collaborate with physicians, subspecialists, and multidisciplinary teams to support diagnosis, evaluation, and care planning
- Master’s degree in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling from ABGC or ABMGG accredited program
- Clinical genetic counseling experience, preferably in Pediatrics
- ABGC/ABMG board certified
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS, NRP, ATLS, ALSO, PALS as required for specialty and scope
