Under general supervision, installs, tests, repairs, calibrates and maintains medical equipment in healthcare and other facilities supported by Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium.

Responsibilities:

Installs, tests, repairs, calibrates and maintains medical equipment. Investigates equipment failures; performs troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose problems; identifies, locates, resolves, and repairs equipment and devices. Investigates intermittent problems; maintains accurate service records; documents and maintains accurate records of all inspections, repairs, adjustments, etc. performed on all equipment; updates database of equipment identification, location, status, reliability, and service documentation.

Participates in both internal and external educational programs through professional associations, technical training courses, and seminars to develop and maintain the required current technical aptitude. Interacts with manufacturer’s representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information. Requests and/or orders necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships. Provides operational and technical advice on equipment to medical and clinical staff when needed.

Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to insure needs are being met.

Minimum Education

Qualification:

Associate Degree in Electronics (preferably biomedical) or equivalent biomedical military training. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for education.

Minimum Experience

Qualification:

Level I:
None.

Level II:
Non-supervisory – Three (3) years of progressively complex (troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, design and modification) hospital-based Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) experience required. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Level III:
Non-supervisory - Five (5) years of medical instrumentation repair and/or maintenance experience including at least two with specialized imaging equipment such as ultrasound, MR CT, or x-ray. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
