Position: Criminal Justice Technician 1/2 (12-4216)

Introduction

Recruitment exempt from the hiring freeze (Administrative Order 358).

Open to Alaska residents only. Applicants must meet Alaska Residency Requirements.

What You Will Be Doing

This position researches various criminal records from local and state agencies and processes arrest and disposition information into the state’s criminal history repository. The candidate coordinates and responds to record‑review requests from the department, criminal justice agencies, and the public, and works with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, courts, and correctional facilities to obtain source documents for criminal history events.

Organization, Mission, and Culture

The Criminal Records Unit processes all disposition information into the state’s criminal history repository. The repository is used by criminal justice and non‑criminal justice agencies throughout Alaska and nationwide, and the information maintained is critical for public safety and decision‑making.

Working Conditions

Located in East Anchorage in the Department of Public Safety’s Headquarters building at 5700 East Tudor Road. The setting includes the Chugach Mountains, ample parking, public transportation drop points directly in front of the building, and paved trails adjacent to the building. Individual office space is co‑located with other Criminal Records Unit staff to encourage team building and collaboration.

Successful completion of training under a formally established Criminal Justice Technician 1–2 flexible staffing training plan with the State of Alaska;
