YEP CREW LEADER – Range 8 / AMEA

Municipality of Anchorage

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

These positions are represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and are subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

Department: Parks and Recreation

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8:15 - 16:45 (30 min lunch)

Location: 1600 Lidia Selkregg Lane

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Example of Duties

Will lead a youth crew in trail building and parks improvement projects throughout Anchorage. Deliver instructions to motivate and garner cooperation from project participants and staff. Implement constructive guidance to youth crew members and assistant crew members. Work with groups and individuals to coordinate and ensure project completion / events facilitation. Care for and ensure safe use of tools and equipment among youth crew members and assistant youth crew leaders.

Transport program participants to various sites using 15‑passenger vans. Administer first aid and CPR. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year experience in the program or activity under consideration. Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required.

Required Certifications & Qualifications
  • American Red Cross First Aid Certification, and American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or equivalent at time of hire.
  • A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record at time of hire.
Physical Requirements

Must be capable of frequently bending, twisting, and kneeling. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather.

Additional Important Information

Preference will be given to returning seasonal employees who are eligible for recall, and to any AMEA employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non‑AMEA applicants.

All required certifications must remain current for the duration of employment.

Upon selection, appointment in this position will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation and a Municipal Employment Office conducted background check.
