Job Summary
St. Mary's Native Corporation is a fast-growing Alaska Native Village Corporation doing approximately $35 million in annual revenue and expanding. We are looking for a senior-level accounting department leader with deep Alaska Native Corporation experience who can both lead and do the work. This position is for Alaska Residents only.
This role is responsible for the full financial operation of the company, including subsidiary and corporate financials, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, reporting, taxes, budgeting, accounting team leadership, and systems management while working with the CEO and Subsidiary Presidents.
We are seeking a leader who can effectively manage a team, analyze financial data, develop comprehensive reports, investigate variances, and step in wherever necessary to ensure the business remains financially disciplined and transparent.
The right person understands 8(a) government contracting, GAAP, subsidiary profitability, and is ready to roll up their sleeves and work in the accounting system.
Why this role mattersThis role exists to lead the accounting department with GAAP-consistent policies and procedures, and to make sure the company always knows where it is making money, where it is losing money, and where it needs to adjust. It ensures subsidiary growth does not outpace financial discipline, and that leadership can make decisions based on real, accurate, and timely financial information.
Duties- Produce all corporate and subsidiary financials across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards including GAAP, FAR and other applicable guidelines.
- Manage the accounting team and day-to-day financial operations.
- Produce clear, timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Improve and maintain financial controls and workflows.
- Understand and manage 8(a) specific government contracting rules and revenue streams.
- Ensure tax filings, audits, and compliance requirements are handled properly.
- Work with external CPAs, accounting firms, and auditors.
- Build subsidiary-level and corporate dashboards that illustrate true performance.
- Provide forward-looking financial insight.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to create financial strategies.
- Ensure leadership always knows where the business actually stands.
- Ensure financial systems support growth and scale.
- Reduce manual work, errors, and delays in reporting.
- Implement stronger controls as the company grows.
- Work closely with corporate and subsidiary managers.
- Support a culture of transparency, accountability and performance.
- Work strategically with leadership and insurance brokers to manage risk.
- Lead the annual budgeting process for the company and its subsidiaries.
- Effectively communicate financial information to managers and board of directors.
- Be positive and solution oriented.
- Perform incidental tasks related to the position as well as various duties, as assigned, to support the overall objectives/goals of the team.
