Food Bank of Alaska is seeking a strategic finance leader to join our executive team as Chief Financial Officer (Incoming).

This full‑time role includes a structured 15‑month transition with our current CFO before assuming full responsibilities.

Reports to the CEO. Salary range: $100,000- $120,000 annually, depending on experience.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic, mission‑driven leader responsible for guiding the financial health, operational stability, and organizational effectiveness of the Food Bank. This role provides oversight of Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology, ensuring that each function operates collaboratively and efficiently to support the organization’s mission of alleviating hunger in the community.

The CFO serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, partnering closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop long‑range strategic and financial plans while upholding the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and accountability.

The position of Chief Financial Officer (Incoming) will include a structured transition period of approximately 15 months, during which the employee will work closely with the current CFO to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer. After this period, the CFO (incoming) will assume full CFO responsibilities. The phases for this transition are:

  • Phase 1 (Onboarding): Focus on learning Food Bank of Alaska systems, culture, and strategic priorities.
  • Phase 2 (Shared Leadership): Begin taking over core CFO duties while the current CFO handles special projects.
  • Phase 3 (Full Transition): Officially assume CFO title and full responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Leadership & Strategy
  • Provide strategic financial leadership to support the organization’s mission, long‑term goals, and operational needs.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, multi‑year forecasting, scenario planning, and financial analysis.
  • Oversee financial reporting, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant statements for internal stakeholders, auditors, and funders.
  • Manage cash flow, investments, reserves, and risk management policies.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, non‑profit reporting standards, federal and state regulations, and all grant‑related financial requirements.
  • Work with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors, presenting financial performance, trends, and recommendations.
Accounting Oversight
  • Supervise the Accounting staff, including hiring, training, providing professional development opportunities and performance reviews.
  • Provide oversight of grant accounting, including properly classifying restricted donations and accurately tracking and accounting for grant/restricted funds received and expended. Work closely with leadership team to provide needed financial information during the grant application and grant reporting process.
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and credibility of all accounting records and financial statements.
  • Ensure the accurate, timely, and thorough processing of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and recording revenue.
Human Resources Oversight
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for all HR functions including recruitment, retention, compensation, workforce development, and performance management.
  • Foster a positive, equitable, and mission‑aligned organizational culture.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, HR policies, and best practices.
  • Oversee employee benefits programs, HR systems, and employee relations.
  • Support leadership in organizational planning, change management, and DEI initiatives.
  • Oversee IT strategy to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable technology systems that support operations, data security, and staff productivity.
  • Ensure strong cybersecurity practices, data governance, and technology policies.
  • Lead technology planning for financial management systems, donor databases, warehouse operations tools, and other mission‑critical systems.
