The actual salary may be eligible for a ten percent (10%) incentive due to a Supervisory Compensation Adjustment. This ensures that supervisors are fairly compensated compared to those they supervise. The adjustment may be discontinued at any time if the Mayor determines it is no longer warranted.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

The Engineering Lead oversees a design team in the design and preparation of plans, and construction contract documents for municipal street, drainage, site, and water quality projects. The role includes:

• Scoping, planning, design and preparation of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, bid proposals, and detailed estimates of probable construction costs for new or upgraded municipal street, trail, drainage, site, and water quality improvements or projects.
• Receiving project assignments from the Engineering Manager and distributing the assignments within the design team.
• Developing project schedules and managing staff schedules and workloads to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
• Overseeing the review of plans, permits and public hearing information with regard to road, drainage, and water quality concerns.
• Preparing appropriate responses and investigating and responding to road and drainage related inquiries and complaints.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible engineering experience.

• A Master’s degree in Engineering may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

• Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
• Registered as a professional engineer in the State of Alaska or ability to obtain registration within 6 months of hire.

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
